The deinking stage releases hydrophobic contaminants from the waste paper and slurry. Deinking Compounds (surfactant based and/or enzyme based) are used to remove the ink and separate it from the pulp, usually in a frothing or floatation device. Efficient removal of ink from the pulp results in improved fiber strength, decreased dirt count and increased paper brightness.
